Mine have changed a lot all over the years, due to my personal development journey. I’ve read a lot of personal development books and attended seminars that have one goal in mind, to make you reach your full potential and be happy in the process of doing so. I love learning new things and reading has changed me so much, I used to be bitter and disappointed about many areas of my life. But as one of my favorite coaches says for things to change you have to change.

All is required is to have faith and have a belief in yourself to make things better. I don’t know your spiritual beliefs but God, whoever your God is, hasn’t brought us to life to live a life of suffering. Of course things will not go according to plan, of course life will bring us down to our knees but to stay there is just a decision, and just a decision away to live a life full of passion and joy.

As a kid growing up I didn’t think that I would have a bright future. I had a very harsh childhood and teenage years fill with pain and disappointment, I even started to have suicidal thoughts. Because of that negativity, I rejected all the good I had in my life and was blind to the truth, that life is amazing.

Values and beliefs shape our destiny

So what make us, as human beings find purpose and meaning in life. The answer is simple but not so obvious. Our values and beliefs, generalizations we made about life in times of pain or pleasure. We link emotional pain in different situations that make us avoid some of life experiences, the opposite is also true we link pleasurable feelings to people or situations that drive our world view. Values and beliefs are shaped by our culture, family and close friends. But we have to ask an intelligent question, does those values and beliefs really benefit me?

It requires an honest deep soul searching to uncover your own values and beliefs, but once you do, you will feel a sense of freedom and pride. For example a belief that now is built in into my character, is that personal growth has the potential to make us better human beings, by being more understanding and caring. It can also challenge us to break free from bad habits or unhealthy behaviors and replace them with healthy ones.

Another example is that I had the false belief that rich people are greedy, or that money is the root of all evil. My friend money can only reinforce whatever is inside you. In fact after reading and studying the lives of rich people I found out that many of them are great philanthropist and promote the idea of charity to those in need.

At the end of the day

At the end of the day, personal development is not about becoming someone else, it’s about unbecoming everything that isn’t truly you. It’s about shedding limiting beliefs, rewriting the story you’ve been telling yourself, and choosing to live with intention. You have the power to change, because you are change. You don’t need to have all the answers right now, just the willingness to grow. And as you do, remember this: life changes when you do.

We are not born with all the answers, but we are born with the ability to seek them. You’re not broken, you’re becoming. The journey of personal development isn’t about chasing perfection, it’s about embracing the truth that you’re worthy of more. More love, more joy, more peace. So don’t be afraid to question your beliefs, update your values, and dream bigger.

If you’ve read this far, then you already have what it takes to grow. You’ve felt the pull for something deeper, something better. Let this be the beginning of a new chapter not one of struggle, but of strength. I’ve walked this road, and I can tell you, it’s worth every step. You don’t have to have it all figured out. Just start. One page, one thought, one belief at a time.

For things to change you have to change As we grow older we shape our values and beliefs about life.
